Meet our team
Meet the fantastic team that keep the Brewpoint mothership producing the finest beer around and the legends that will be serving you in our shop and taproom. If you see these guys around be sure to give them a wave - they're a friendly bunch!
If you'd like to join the page of legends you can check out our vacancies here!
With over 35 years in the brewing game under his belt, our Head Brewer, Ian, seriously knows his beer. Starting out as production and technical brewer, he climbed the ranks to manage large commercial brewing operations. His previous gig before joining Wells & Co. was Director of Brewing at Camden Town Brewery, where he oversaw the development of their impressive new site in Enfield, so he’s the perfect fit to turn our Brewpoint dream into a reality.
When he’s not geeking out over exotic hop varieties and installing new brewing vessels in our new home, Ian likes to stay active outside of work. A keen golfer, with a current handicap of 18 (lapsed from a previous high of 10, he assures us), he’s also a fan of cycling, walking, and making the most of time at home with his wife and teenage daughter. They’re big fans of hanging out and cooking as a team, and on that note, Ian tells us that his dream meal would be a spicy lamb curry with dahl – washed down with a crisp pint of Charlie Wells Dry Hopped Lager, of course.
G’day! We’d like to introduce you to James, or Jimmy – you decide! Jimmy has joined the Brewpoint brew crew as our Lead Brewer and he’s flown in all the way from down under (Australia for those that don’t know)! For the last few years Jimmy has worked at numerous breweries for Australia’s biggest brewer – and now has the fun task of brewing at Bedford’s freshest brewery.
Fun fact! Jimmy’s 7x grandfather, also James Hunter, emigrated from Scotland in 1845, so although it’s been a long time coming, the Hunter clan is coming back to the UK! In his spare time James/Jimmy (we still can’t decide) enjoys camping, hiking and collecting red wine, although we have advised him not to go for a midnight hike in Bedford. His favourite food is anything from the Mediterranean & his favourite beer is Sierra Nevada’s Imperial stout.
Everyone, we would like you to meet Vinicius! Vinicius meet everyone! He goes by the name of Vinny (everyone’s favourite cousin!) and he is a member of the new brew crew, here at Brewpoint. Vinny is originally from Porto Alegre, the capital city of the southern-most state in Brazil and can speak a rather impressive four languages.
Vinny has already started with us and is properly getting stuck in with the ‘fun’ research part before the brewing actually begins later this year. In his spare time Vinny enjoys kayaking, although we can’t promise that the sights of Bedford river will quite outdo Brazil, so apologies on that part. Being from Brazil, Vinny’s favourite food is BBQ (perhaps we should have a Brazilian BBQ night?) & his favourite beer is Saint Feuillien Grand Cru (have fun pronouncing that).
Sam AKA Mossy
Mossy is our mad scientist with a PhD in chemistry.
His first ever brew was making alcoholic ginger beer in a 2-litre fizzy drink bottle.
Mossy's first proper brewery job was as an assistant brewer at Hand Drawn Monkey, based in Huddersfield. Afterwards doing the rounds at Round Tower Brewery and Mad Squirrel Brewery.
If you were to meet Mossy he'd tell you the best part about working in a brewery instead of a lab is that when you taste what you have made you don't get funny looks.
Favourite Beer: Checkpoint, which FUN FACT he helped to develop.
Barney first started in the brewing industry in 2014, looking for a career that could be more than just a job, something he could be passionate about.
Finding work as a graduate on a placement scheme with Molson Coors in Burton-on-Trent. Moving to London he then worked at Meantime Brewing Company in QA and gained over 2 years of experience as a Brewer.
Having built experience across both quality and brewing departments Barney wanted a fresh challenge in a new environment, starting as Senior Brewer with Wells & Co in March 2021.
We're glad to report he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Brewpoint so far, both the people and the beers are great.
Favourite Beer: I think there is such great variety in styles that you can usually find a flavour to suit the mood. As I write this, I have a desire for a pint of Alpha, a hoppy IPA with bold malt character and warming 6.7% ABV.
A little while after choosing beer over ouzo, Olga asked herself “Why not make my hobby a jobby?” And so here she is making her way at Brewpoint as an Assistant Brewer.
Favourite beer: Hop & Heart as all these tropical aromas and tastes remind her of those summers back in Greece.
Constantinos was a high school teacher until he decided to do a left turn down breaking bad street and give it all up for a life in brewing!
Favourite Beer: Alpha cos the west coast is the best coast.
Sam had no idea of what career path he'd take in his adult life so he did what any self-respecting graduate does - delay the inevitable and travel instead.
After working at summer camps in the US for two years and copious visits to various craft breweries, the thought of being paid to make beer seemed pretty appealing.
Initially starting out at Bowness Bay Brewing, a local cask ale brewery in the Lake District, he then joined Brewpoint in September as an Assistant Brewer.
Favourite beer: Brewpoint Nitro inkwell – he's a little stubborn and refuses to call it chocolate toothpaste until we start adding mint!
Brewery Planning Manager
We’d love you to meet Karina who makes up the fourth member of our Brewing team. Welcome, Karina.
Karina moved to England from Latvia, with a plan to improve her English and gain some life experience, whilst having fun, of course. With an original timeline of 2 years, Karina just couldn’t bring herself to leave and here we are 11 years later.
Karina joins us with a wealth of experience coming from Carlsberg UK. Starting as a Production and Supply Planner and ended her time there as a Sales Planning Manager.
Favourite beer: Wit a Minute – because Karina is a big fan of wheat beers and especially Belgian style.
Packaging Brewer / Packaging God
After years of travelling the world, working and managing bars, restaurants, cafes and even a BnB, Jon realised that he didn’t like customers/people anymore and that it was ageing him like fine milk, so he decided to study so he could hide behind the mystical and magical doors between the taproom and the brewery.
If you find yourself in the taproom and hear some angry and disturbing sounds coming from the brewery, cask racking is most likely occurring, which equals Grumpy Jon. Be careful of Grumpy Jon. Otherwise, a pure delight to be around.
Favourite BrewPoint beer: fresh Alpha! Piney, resiny, bitter but smooth, big but crisp. Not for the hazy boi’s!
Alex is our beer ambassador here at Brewpoint, you may have seen him on our Talk & Taste events and yes we can confirm he is old enough to drink beer!
He has recently joined the team here at Brewpoint after a couple of years working within the spirits industry, Alex decided he was ready to transfer over to what is truly closer to his heart... Great beer!!
During his spare time he enjoys, walking & exploring new places, eating out at crazy cool venues, cooking new styles of food, and watching copious amounts of sport (much to the dislike of his girlfriend) whether that be Football or F1, you'll find him there!
His favourite style of beer is a NEIPA (Rumour has it we have nailed our Hop & Heart!) but his go-to beer would be Fruli Strawberry beer.
